Hazel Dabreo

Hazel was born in Grenada, and left at age 17 for Canada, where she qualified as a Psychotherapist and raised a family, now comprising two daughters, two sons-in-law and two grandchildren.  In 2006, she returned to the home of her birth.  Along with running a private practice, Hazel currently works for the Legal Aid and Counseling Clinic, for Action for Children (formerly National Children’s Home – NCH), and engages in consultancies for various UN agencies. She returns frequently to Toronto where she lectures, maintains a private clientele, co-directs the Shamanic Psychotherapy School and attends to her on-going professional development. Linda J. Butler. Co-Founder. (Canada)

Linda J. Butler is a former freelance actor/writer, co-author of Shadd: The Life and Times of Mary Shadd Cary, the ground-breaking biography of the 19th century feminist/abolitionist/publisher. Ms. Butler was a founding member of THOG, a seminal experimental theatre group in the early 1970s in Toronto. She has been for many years senior partner of a prominent Toronto talent agency.

Frances Hogue, Holistic Counselor. (Canada)

Frances Hogue is a holistic counsellor and therapist based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada and currently divides her time between a part time therapy practice and employment as a human resource counsellor, and administrative manager.

Over the past fifteen years Frances has immersed herself in therapeutic training and self healing, including personal therapy, creative and spiritual processes, training, study, advocacy, and clinical practice.

Her therapeutic training began in the feminist community and encompasses study and training in the understanding of the social, political and cultural overlays that influence, support and perpetuate acts of sexual violence. Frances’ approach to the therapeutic process has also been strongly influenced by humanistic therapies and theory and the deep respect given within these processes to the honouring of the unique experience of each individual. Through personal and clinical experience and practice, she has developed a strong belief in the potential that all individuals have for self healing, as well as how important the connection of the mind, body and spirit is in support of that process.

Frances also has training and experience in assisting and supporting the emotional healing of individuals who have experienced child sexual abuse, rape, catastrophic illness, grief and loss, and other significant life changes.

Heloisa da Silva Porto. Psychotherapist. (Brazil / Canada)

Heloisa da Silva Porto is a Shamanic Psychotherapist based in Toronto, Canada. Of Brazilian origin, she has been assisting individuals in their emotional healing and spiritual growth for the past 15 years.

Heloisa co-founded the Institute for Shamanic Psychotherapy (Toronto 1997 to 2001) and founded the Shamanic Psychotherapy School in 2005. She is a passionate lover of the Earth, of the Spiritual life, and believes profoundly in the inherent capacity of human beings to heal and restore balance.

Her work encompasses various methods that respect the uniqueness of each person and the interconnection of body, mind and spirit . Tyrone Buckmire, Community Activist. (Grenada)

Almost 20 years as an Activist, advocating for Child Rights, Youth and rural community development and environmental protection. First worked with the Grenada Planned Parenthood Association for 10 years, and subsequently worked as Coordinator of the Inter-Agency Group of Development Organizations and the Grenada National Coalition on the Rights of the Child, umbrella agencies whose members grappled with a host of social issues, primary among them poverty alleviation, education and training, domestic violence and social/legal assistance.

Tyrone was instrumental in the establishment of Grenada’s first Remedial Education Programmes for teenage mothers, and more recently served as the Manager of the Programme for Adolescent Mothers, a project of the Coalition that provides an opportunity for teenage mothers to continue and complete their formal education.

Trained extensively in relevant regional and international projects, with internships in the US, UK, Canada and Europe. Served on various youth expert panels within UN-Specialized agencies and in the international Planned Parenthood and adolescent health field.

Currently a Facilitator on the ongoing Man-to-Man Batters Intervention Programme in Grenada.

Dr. Beverly Nelson, MD. Pediatrician. (Grenada)

Dr. Beverly Nelson, M.A. F.A.A.P, is licensed to practice Medicine in the States of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics, 2004-2013. She currently holds the position of Head of Pediatrics/ Consultant Pediatrician, Ministry of Health, Grenada. She is responsible for full pediatric service in Grenada covering a population of 40,000 children shared with another pediatrician. She serves on various Ministerial Boards such as Maternal Child Health, Immunization and Breast feeding committees and is responsible for the teaching of junior physician staff and nursing students.

patrickPat Patrick is a Licensed Independent Social Worker – Clinical Practice based in Charleston, South Carolina where he is the State Director of the Families First Program with the South Carolina Department of Social Services. The Families First Program uses a creative, unique approach to empowering families involved with the child welfare system through family engagement interventions such as family group decision making.

Over the past 30 years, his professional career has centered on service delivery and program development to children and their families impacted by the trauma of child maltreatment. He has also been very active in child sexual abuse prevention efforts on state, national and international levels consulting with communities on the implementation of community based prevention initiatives. This work has led to successful implementation of the Stewards of Children Child Sexual Abuse Prevention initiatives in communities throughout the United States and 10 other countries including Canada and the Cayman Islands.
